Independent Studio Artists Ltd. has a long history in the Temple Bar area dating back to the early 1980’s when it was known as “Studio 16”. During the refurbishment of Temple Bar a group of artists from studio 16 and from individual studios around Temple Bar, got together to lobby to make sure that low cost studio spaces were maintained in the area. The negotiations finally led in 1998 to the agreement to provide ten purpose built studios in two newly refurbished buildings at no’s 16 and 11 Eustace St. Independent Studio Artists Ltd. was formed to manage and maintain the studios. Independent Studio Artists Ltd. is a limited company with a board made up of artists and professionals from outside the arts community. Studios are advertised publicly when spaces arise, and residencies are typically two to three years.
